Per Henry Schulman, the Giants have trimmed their roster down by eight spots in yesterday’s first round of cuts. They are: SS Ehire Adrianza, OF Wendell Fairley, C Johnny Monell, OF Thomas Neal, IF Nick Noonan, C Hector Sanchez and C Jackson Williams. All of the 7 above players were reassigned to minor league camp [...]

A quick update: I was going to attach this to my previous post but forgot to. I’ll be keeping track of Giants’ players various aches and pains as they advance through ST. You can either bookmark this page for updates, or I’ll be re-posting it as big news develops. The spreadsheet is very basic, it [...]

Hooray, baseball is back. Well, sorta back. Here’s my annual don’t-worry-too-much-about-Spring-Training post. Yesterday Giants pitchers and catchers (and a few position players, too) found their way down to Arizona for the start of Spring Training. Today is first the official day when pitchers and catchers start working out. On February 23rd the rest of the [...]

Freddy Sanchez might not be ready for Opening Day because of health concerns. Tell me more, SFGate. Manager Bruce Bochy confirmed to The Associated Press on Thursday night that Sanchez had a recent arthroscopic procedure. Bochy first told KNBR radio of Sanchez’s surgery. Sanchez had left knee surgery late in the 2009 season. Bochy said [...]

Rebuilding the bullpen for 2009 was a major goal for the Giants over this offseason. They added some free agent arms in Affeldt and Howry, but the team was also counting on homegrown pitcher, Sergio Romo, to be in the mix. Unfortunately, Romo is battling an elbow strain and could miss the next 10 days [...]

Do you smell that? It kind of smells like dryer sheets. No, wait. That’s not right. Is it warm apple pie fresh out of the oven? Nah, that’s not right either. It smells like, optimism? “There’s also a sense of confidence to go with that,” manager Bruce Bochy said, referring to the addition of free [...]

The Giants have signed 35-year-old RHP Ramon Ortiz to a Minor League contract with an invite to Spring Training. From SFGiants.com: Ortiz peaked between 2001-03, when he went 44-33 for Anaheim. He defeated the Giants in Game 3 of the 2002 World Series in San Francisco, allowing four runs in five innings in a 10-4 [...]

Let me preface this post with this: Spring Training statistics are meaningless. Time and time again Spring Training has shown us that those who play hot for a few weeks before the season begins, aren’t essentially solid bets to carry that performance over into the regular season. Neifi Perez hitting .474 with 7 HRS in [...]

Well, almost. The first step towards actually seeing, hearing, and watching live baseball again has been taken. Pitchers and catchers in the Giants organization have reported to Scottsdale, Arizona and are in the early stages of baseball activities. It might not be much, but just hearing about and seeing a few brief images of ballplayers [...]
