Sanchez has been solid on defense this year, but the Giants are going to need a little more oomph out of his bat. His current .302 wOBA — using the original Tango formula and not the FanGraphs’ version — leaves much to be desired. In our graph I’ve also included the league average for wOBA. [...]

For a moment there, the offense looked like it was going to be OK. A couple of Aubrey Huff double plays later and I’m jaded again. At the moment, the Giants are 18-14 based on their hot start in April when the team went 13-9. During that April, the Giants scored roughly 4.5 runs per [...]

Hooray, baseball is back. Well, sorta back. Here’s my annual don’t-worry-too-much-about-Spring-Training post. Yesterday Giants pitchers and catchers (and a few position players, too) found their way down to Arizona for the start of Spring Training. Today is first the official day when pitchers and catchers start working out. On February 23rd the rest of the [...]

Good morning, Giants fans. I hope everyone had an enjoyable weekend. Mine was filled with videogames (Wario’s Smooth Moves for the Wii is a lot of fun), reading (reading through another short story collection of PKD’s works — love him), and trying some new scotch (a buddy of mine hooked me up with a bottle [...]

Freddy Sanchez might not be ready for Opening Day because of health concerns. Tell me more, SFGate. Manager Bruce Bochy confirmed to The Associated Press on Thursday night that Sanchez had a recent arthroscopic procedure. Bochy first told KNBR radio of Sanchez’s surgery. Sanchez had left knee surgery late in the 2009 season. Bochy said [...]

You may have noticed for the past couple of weeks I’ve been particularly silent on the topic of Giants baseball. Over the span of the last 14 days I’ve maybe seen 9 innings of total baseball that relates to the Giants. It’s not that I’m super busy on a personal level — I’ve had things [...]

Henry Schulman is reporting that the Giants have traded RHP Tim Alderson (the #4 Giants prospect by BA before this season started) for Pirates 2B Freddy Sanchez. Salary details are a little sketchy, but for what the Pirates are getting in Alderson they’ll probably be kicking in the rest of Freddy’s 2008 salary.* *Looks like [...]
