Changeup love letters: Trying to remember Noah Lowry

I think it was around 2005, or so, when I started to get back into Giants baseball. As a younger person growing up, I always loved baseball. I especially loved the statistics, the numbers, the never ending columns of data that baseball seemed to create. I can recall spending countless wasted hours on games like Sierra’s Front Page Sports Baseball… Read more →

Bay City Ball’s 2013 Top Prospect List, #15-11

Published by Chris Quick on January 30, 2013 | 13 Responses

This year marks the third year that we’ve put together a site prospect ranking. (You can find the previous rankings here: 2011 – 2012.) The way it works is that we each come up with a ranking, share lists, and then hash out a final ranking. Chris Martinez and I composed this year’s list. Today’s ranking focuses on the #15… Read more →

After the World Series, the Giants’ game-plan for 2013 could essentially be boiled down to: bring back key free agent players (Scutaro and Pagan), agree to a one-year deal with Hunter Pence, and sign bullpen pitcher, Santiago Casilla, to a three-year, $15M deal. “Keeping the band together” is often bandied about as a common pitfall of championship teams, and despite… Read more →

Giants and Pence agree on one-year, $13.8M deal; team eyein’ Brandon Lyon

Jon Heyman’s twitter: Personally, I’m kind of glad the Giants didn’t go the multi-year route with Pence. He’s coming off a pretty disappointing half-season with the Giants — as a Giant he batted .219/.287/.384 — and while his defense is adequate in RF, he’s certainly not a plus-defender there. And he’ll turn 30 this April. I’m not sure I want… Read more →

(After a brief break from posting, I’m back and with more Sergio Romo slider porn.) One of my favorite pastimes is talking about Sergio Romo. I’m constantly amazed by the slider; the command; the everything. He’s easily one of my favorite Giants and when I sat down today to run though some numbers, I was a little surprised at what… Read more →

A hodgepodge of baseball stuff

Hello, baseball. I see you over there. Hiding behind the clothes dryer. Making little whooping noises. The Giants have recently — over the past month or so — made a bunch of little itty-bitty moves that I’ve yet to comment on. This being the slowest time of the year for baseball news, I figured that I would round up a… Read more →

Casilla signs three-year deal (it’s probably an OK deal)

The good news — when Casilla is pitching well, he looks like a dominant reliever, throwing mid-90 MPH heat with filthy breaking stuff. GIF example of said filthy breaking stuff. That’s from April 26th this past season when Casilla struck out the side in a game against the Cincinnati Reds. In this particular game, Casilla was burying 95-MPH two-seam fastballs… Read more →

Winter Leagues Digest, December 18

All stats are from the period between December 9 and 16.  The Giants signed a few minor league free agents in the last month or so and a few of them have turned up in the winter leagues. Also, I found Gregor Blanco playing in the Venezuelan league so he’s been added to the updates. Let’s get started with the… Read more →
