The next in my patented line of the why-god-am-I-doing-this series of Melky .gifs, I present to you a celebratory .gif that honors Melky Cabrera’s recent one-year, six million dollar deal with the San Francisco Giants baseball club. I demand you give me satisfaction, forthright! (This is what happens when I stop sleeping and drink too much coffee. Complaints can be… Read more →
Happy Friday, have some links to go with your day. I recently noticed the Giants’ motherpage has a neat non-roster invitee section that lists all the NRIs for the coming camp. It’s your normal mix of prospects with journeymen-type players looking for another shot at the majors. The always interesting Chris Jaffe of The Hardball Times has an article up… Read more →
Tweet: Orlando Cabrera to retire from baseball, he said in Colombia radio station. Thanks for memories! @Enrique_Rojas1 I’ll never forget you, O-Cab.
The Giants have made quite a few deals today — Melky Cabrera, Nate Schierholtz, Santiago Casilla have all signed deals — as the team works it’s way through the arbitration process. The most exciting deal today, by far, is the three year deal that Pablo Sandoval has agreed to. From the Giants twitter feed: Per Andrew Baggarly, the contract breaks… Read more →
The AP reports this morning: The San Francisco Giants and outfielder Angel Pagan agreed to a $4.85 million, one-year contract that avoided arbitration, a person with knowledge of the negotiations said. Jon Morosi tweets: Vogelsong was in line to earn $3-4M this season through arbitration. So, when you consider the fact that the Giants were going to pay Vogelsong $3-4M in 2012 regardless of what happened, this seems like a nice little deal for the team. Vogelsong — who has to be thrilled right now — gets more financial security than… Read more →
Subtitle: you want catchers? We got catchers. — 10. Hector Sanchez, C 22 years old in 2012 Chris Quick: The Giants’ system seems to have stocked up on catching talent in a hurry. Sanchez is still quite young and he does a little bit of everything well (hitting, fielding, throwing). He might not have the upside of some other catching… Read more →
Phillies release John Bowker (former BCB Baseball-Reference adoptee). I’m not saying that John Bowker could have been as good as Willie McCovey, but what I am saying is that John Bowker could have been as good as Willie McCovey.
This is year marks the second time we’ve put together a Top 15 prospect list for the site; and, something that I think is really cool, this is the first year we’ve had four different writers add their input to the list. Last year the list was created by Otis and I, but this year, we’ve got Rory Paap and… Read more →
