About

Bay City Ball is a blog dedicated to all things Giants and other MLB news.

I’m a fan of using sabermetrics to evaluate baseball players. The term sabermetrics often induces images of nerds in their basements, furiously tapping away at their computers, but I’ll put it this way: “I like using numbers, statistics, and analysis to try and better understand the game of baseball”. That sounds a little better and it might not scare off the non-numbers crowd as much. It’s about trying to better understand the game in measureable ways. I like numbers. At the same time, I don’t look down on people who think that intangibles matter or stuff like that, but I might not take your points as seriously as someone who can actually back them up with well thought out analysis. Not to say that I don’t think some of the “non-numbers” stuff doesn’t matter. But it matters very little in the big scheme of things.

I started this blog so that I could write more about my passion and curse, the San Francisco Giants. Some of my earliest memories are watching Giants baseball on TV, collecting baseball cards, and playing baseball with friends.

It’s my best effort to make Bay City Ball a intelligent forum where people can discuss the Giants and other baseball happenings.

Discussion Guidelines

As per site discussion in the comment section, if you’re going to make a statement or prediction, it’s up to you to prove your point. Comments on the site are very relaxed and I don’t moderate them strongly. Site discussion is highly encouraged and welcomed. Making statements like “Player X is really underrated” without backing them up with facts is looked down upon. It’s all about intelligent, well thought out discussion and dialog!

Trolling, flaming, or baiting other users isn’t tolerated. We can all get a little emotional sometimes when talking about our favorite subject, baseball, but inflammatory statements will not be tolerated.

The general idea is that be kind, we’re all Giants fans.

I hope you enjoy your stay!
