The man has a long and solid career of performance.  His productivity is slightly exaggerated by the parks he's played in, but even discounted, it is quite good.  The information here is interesting, but it doesn't mean much without an interpretation of why there should be such a significant change.  My own suspicion is that it's really very simple: he urgently wants to be here, he urgently wanted to go to post-season, he urgently wants to win in post-season . . . and so he is pressing.  People do, even experienced people.  I daresay that come next season, he will settle into his steady, established productivity pattern.  Whether he can shift gears right now is hard to say, but I imagine Sir Hensley is working on it with him.

Pence's career has been better than schierholtz's because 1. Pence has played, and 2. Pence has been healthy and thus he has played.  Otherwise  there is not much difference.  One guy really had the opportunity, and one guy kept getting held back every time he went into a slump.   You have to love Pence's energy, effort and personality, but he is otherwise over-rated.  Sanchez's first two strikeouts were brutal by the ump. The first called strike 3 was low and outside ala Belt's K from last night. Finally in the post season they get Sanchez to take some pitches and then the ump rewards him by calling him out on a pitch that was a ball.  The next time he K's on a pitch high and inside called strike 3.  Later he was so screwed up that he swung at a ball in the dirt for another K.

Well, he hit a dinger tonight.  I like Hector Sanchez a lot more than you, but I agree he's not a #5 hitter by any stretch.

I have my own pet theory on Pence, who I've always liked because his end of season batting lines are so consistent.  Dude needs to lay off the caffeine!  He's made some comments about how one of the things he really likes about SF is the coffee places and how much he likes the stuff. He looks like he's actually mainlining the stuff and/or is hitting the energy drinks way too hard.  I mean it's like you can actually see the tremulousness when he's out there!

Yo Hunter!  Limit yourself to 2 cups before noon and no energy drinks!

DrBGiantsfan  Yea, Hunter makes Andres Torres look like he is on a sedative.
