Arias HR again in sweep. Put that guy in the line-up NOW and keep him there!

Not sure if he will be a 40 double 20 homer guy, because he is still quite young. He has a nice swing and could eventually being hitting more than30 homers per year.

I would be a little more worried about Belt's power had he not hit two bombs in one game, just off the top of the wall at AT&T.  He will hit for power if he plays everyday.

ariess I know one of those went to left field that just missed going out. Belt does have 21 doubles so far which is a good sign for future HR power. Belt seems more like the type of hitter that could possibly hit 40-45 doubles and 20-25 HRs in his best seasons.

It was great to see Brandon Belt start the winning rally in the 9th. Does anyone have any theories as to why Belt hasn't homered since June 23rd? I'm starting to get a bit concerned. I still believe Belt is the long term answer at first base and I believe his upside is Fred McGriff/Justin Mourneau. Some of my Giants buddies scoff at that but I am a "true believer". :-)

Re: Hunter Pence, all is forgiven. Dude delivers a monstrous 3-run bomb, and as a bonus, Quote of the Day:“If it goes over the fence, it’s a homer,” he said, shrugging. “We got three runs. That was cool."Yes. Yes it was.

Don"t forget about the fake to third, throw to first play actually working for Casilla

I think it is probably important to see what Pence has done in hitters parks vs. pitchers parks. Also it would be useful to see what he did in important at bats in his career.  Now, playing for a pennant, almost every at bat is important, and they are pitching him that way.  He needs to adjust, or, yes, go the way of Aaron Rowand.  Giants signed Rowand after he had a good year.  Giants signed Pence while he was in a slump hoping that the slump would soon be over.  If Pence was a rookie this year, he would definitely be in Triple A at this time.

And by signed Pence, I mean traded for him.

I would like to open up the idea of starting Arias in place of Crawford a bit more. They guy has produced and we need all the offense we can get. Is he that much a liability at SS. I'd put him there and see if he can keep some fires burning in the offense. A 3-2 win over the Astros is not something to celebrate. I'd like to see some 8-1 wins, so go Joaquin!

The only thing I'm not with you on here is the Romo-as-closer bit.  I actually give Bochy a lot of credit for playing the matchups lately and falling into the trap of having to have a "closer".  It worked last night, and yeah, Romo can get lefties out from time-to-time, but I wouldn't leave him out there to face say, Adrian Gonzalez.

AdamDoctolero Romo's been pretty good against LHB over his career. I really don't have any gripes with the way Bochy runs his bullpen -- my biggest gripe is I wish he'd get Kontos into more leveraged situations.

Chris Quick AdamDoctolero Yes, he has been, but it doesn't make sense to try and get one or two tough lefties out with Romo when you can use Lopez or even Affeldt/Mijares.  I'm just saying I appreciate the guts it takes to not try and shoehorn someone into the closer's role just because baseball at-large says you should have a closer.  As for Kontos, he has been very good, but I like having him as a multiple inning guy when needed.  He fills that role nicely.

The problem you are seeing with Pence is why Philadelphia was delighted to unload him.  Don't expect his batting approach to change.

pence and blanco had some of the ugliest at bats seen for a while in today's game.  neither of them looks like getting a hit when they step into the box (OK pence ran into one, but they worked him out pretty quickly after that), both of them look like their confidence is completely shot and I am not sure that sending them out game after game is going to change that.  not sure how ready peguero is, but someone needs to be providing another OF option.unfortunately pence's 'watch me miss this slider' routine is positively rowandesque ...

duncanfromglenhaven For the most part, Pence has looked terrible. Peguero is not the answer.

I think it's a bit premature to compare Hunter Pence to Aaron Rowand. Not because he's swinging like him, but because I don't want to think about the possibility that the Giants traded for Aaron Rowand after kicking him off the team last year. And in so doing traded away Tommy Joseph and a (then hot) Nate Schierholtz.
