You can see that a lot of fly ball tendencies hurt the giants hitters at home. For too much of the season guys were swinging for the fences with little luck.  I think the 58 on the road homers, to the 20 at home homers, shows that the giants needed to change their approach at home.  Their average on the road is 271, and at home in their large field is only 257.  Their runs score are  324 on the road, which leads the N.L. to 210 at home which is last in the N.L.  This is the Jekyl and Hyde team, pitching and hitting.

If you look at the pitching splits, it appears that the Giants pitchers have been a bit unlucky on the road and either a bit lucky or greatly benefiting from their fly ball tendencies at home (or both):ERA (or what actually happened) - Home = 2.95; Away = 4.36FIP (or what should have happened) - Home = 3.32; Away = 4.16 xFIP (or what should have happened assuming a normalized fly ball rate) - Home = 3.85; Away = 4.06When you compare that with the hitting stats, there's more evidence to suggest that they've been better hitters on the road and luckier pitchers at home.

Check the pitching splits at home and away, they are just as dramatic.

It may benefit the G's to have more road games down the stretch.  The batting splits home/road for this team are pretty surprising.  Home field advantage?  Not so much..

I am surprised that nobody has demanded the death penalty for PEDs. Obviously with all the issues surrounding PED's players are still taking chances.  Could the salary structure of pro-sports have something to do with it?  Not everyone will sell out for the hope of a large financial return. But many will.  Some may just want to be better, money not the main motivator.  I suspect that if the death penalty were invoked, some would still take PED's.  The giants should get a break from having a guy taking PED's because many think that T.L. took performance worsening drugs.

For some reason this year the dodgers team ERA is quite better than the giants but the bums have not scored as much as the giants. But with their acquisitions before the trade deadline ie; getting Victorino and  Ramirez, make give them a much better lineup, at the same time, despite the giants getting Pence and Scutaro, we lost the Melkman, and our lineup takes a whole new character.  I keep waiting for Belt to start hitting with some power.

One ped does not correlate as a team cheating. Melky ia gone and likely forever. The giants will win the division without the milk man because they are first a pitchera team second a hitters team.

They may hit much better on the road, one of the best road hitting teams in the N.L. but they do not pitch especially well on the road. Petco is an outlier.  Petco and Dodger stadium play more like pitcher's parks.  The rest of the league is different.  The giants home era is really good, while their road era is in the middle of the pack or worse.  Romo has pitched nicely on the road.

In response to your notion that the Giants are at a disadvantage because they play more of their remaining games on the road than the Dbacks or Dodgers do, the Giants actually have a more potent offense on road than at home. Home team BA: .257, Road BA: .272. Their team home slugging % is .357. On the road it's .417. They score far more runs on the road than at home, and it's not just because AT&T Park is a pitcher's park - Petco Park is a pitchers park as well and they dropped 10 runs last night. Their home record is better than their road record, but in most every offensive category, their road stats are far more impressive than their home stats. I don't think the fact that they play more away games than home ones the rest of the season is actually that big of a deal. It might, in fact, be an advantage.

There does seem to be some kind of correlation with playing left field, and PED use.

To be honest, I don't care what the rest of the "baseball world" thinks of our team. You said the 2010 team did it clean, won the right way; I agree. The "baseball world" said the 2010 Giants got lucky. Sure, melky got caught, and Barry's numbers are tainted; but these guys weren't doing anything at least one player on every other team was doing. This doesn't mean PED's are ok, I'm just saying their PED use is more in the spotlight than many other players. I won't root against our team because you think everyone else is gonna criticize them for success. I don't care if "the baseball world" is upset if the giants get in the playoffs and there are stories about giants PED scandals and "the baseball world" calls them cheats. You think they'd have a problem if Ryan Braun led the brewers to the playoffs, I don't.

Firstly I think the loss of Melky will cost us more than one game. Secondly as far as the giants cheating, look at all the dodger players from 2000 on, listed as those who took PED's.  It is a greater number by far than the number of giants taking PED's. so lets get that straight.  Thirdly, even with the loss of Wilson, if Lincecum had one of his normal seasons at this would be moot, because the giants would be at least 4 games up in the standings and probably more.

First Bonds, and now Melky that is the legacy of the San Francisco Giants and the Organization that have cheaters playing for them.  The Giants cannot win games the honest way and have to cheat to compete and win.   These two ballplayers ruin our orgaization in the eyes of the  baseball world forever, with their bad behavior and selfish act, they hurt their team mates, the fans in the bayarea for along time.  And nothing can change the image, people have of our team and organization.

Chris Quick It doesn't matter what you & I  think, in the baseball world the Giants allowed these ballplayers to play for them and  knew that they were juiced.  Sabean and the organization can denied to high heaven that they were not aware of this, but they will not be believed. The 2010 season was a clean season for the Giants as well as 2011, but 2012 is a tainted one and the organization will be held accountable for this latest juiced player named M.C.

londonstatto I agree, the organization needs to better screen mlb free agents in the future, so this will not occur again.  MLB as a whole has to address this issue, start banding players when caught the first time  with a 162 game suspension and loss of pay and second time offense band for life.  Anyone on illegal drugs in their system , will not be eligible for the hall no matter what your numbers are Bonds,Clements etc.

I agree that Lincecum  and Melky is costing the Giants any chance to compete in 2012.  Also losing Brian Wilson was a big loss added to the other problems we are currently facing is too much of a hurdle to overcome.  I rather start in 2013 with a new and fresh approach, this season is tainted because of Melky and even if we go to a post season game, we will be known as the Giants cheaters.

I love the Giants and think it'd be great if we can make it to the playoffs and as the saying goes, in baseball, anything can happeni can't help but feel nothing will happen this year. even if we make it to the post season, we lost brian wilson, we lost 70% of lincecum, and we lost melky, i just don't see it and i don't think there's a point being excited for the postseason if there's no chance in winning it all.

Chris Quick

Frozendarkness If you make the postseason, you should be thrilled. Saying you don't want to make the postseason because you might not win everything is kind of weird to me. The 2006 Cardinals limped into the postseason and ended up winning the entire thing. The 2010 Giants barely got in and they won the entire thing.Point being: if you get to the postseason, that's a pretty big deal.

Chris Quick It is not weird if you are look at by MLB  standards and now everybody looks at us  as juiced central!!   how do you want to  win games  or go to post season, by cheating or by honest play?  The players must be down, they are the ones that got screwed by M.C.  fans make statements that show how far your removed from reality, and want to believe in a feel good moment.  The 2006 Cardinals didn't have a juiced player who was caught cheating, the Giants had two players  Bonds and Melky that used illegal substance for selfish reasons.
