Any chance Arias has played himself into a full-time job at either 2B or SS after Sandoval gets off the DL? Not sure how he plays defensively, but he's (sadly) a little better than Theriot-Burriss-Crawford-Culberson.

Mr. Quick,

I have long read and mostly enjoyed your site.  I have never been riled to post til now.

There is no way in a hell of stone handed topiary that O. effinHudson is an upgrade over the way the team is trending, toward functional, spunky, upside down catish, and cheap, youth.  A couple or few years ago, OK, O. effinHudson was a tempting bite.  But now?  How could any #freebelt believer think that going with the over the hill potted deck palm is the way to go?  Ride the end of Freddy Sanchez?  OK.  You want Huff to ride off into the sunset awkwardly at best and are ready to hitch up to O. effinHudson at this point in his decline?  Really?  Culberson, Panik, Conor, Arias, Brock,,,,, these guys do and will all play with a hunger and range way beyond what O effinHudson possibly brings at this late date in his career.  I do hope that even Sabes and Boch believe so.

I am a huge fan of letting B. Crawford play his way into Major League shape, and believe that is happening before our eyes.  I wish it had been done more so last season.  The same can happen at second, and still win the division, and take our shot in October.  What more do we want?  Having grown with the youth, aren't we finally stronger, and cheaper, next year?  I just don't think that O effinHudson at this point gets us closer to riding this great pitching staff to the promised land once more.  We all saw what a couple old cranky guffs did to the team last season, I hope Boch and Sabes have seen the light of DeLeon's fountain and are drinking from it.  He is the dude who was looking for the Fountain of Youth, yes?

You push the numbers that say there is a hope that O. effinHudson could rebound to respectable.   That isn't much of a ceiling really.  The upside of untested youth is, well, unknown.  I am gonna keep my dawber up and get my Humm Baby on fully while hoping that we do not see a hair of old man O effinHudson on this squad, ever.  'Seen enough over the hill O. effingMoFos and Tejehahahahahs for a lifetime.

Go Giants

O. Hudson is not in anyway an upgrade over the growth of the kids who are the future of the team.  O ARGLFRAG is just a return to the topiary that pretended to man SS last season and many seasons before.  Please, please, please,,, do not let this happen.

@GoGigantos You can't seriously be saying that Manny Burriss is our future? If you're saying Culberson is that future is definitely not now.

GoGigantos
GoGigantos

@RogerM should Crawford gotten more playing time at the end last season?  should Huff be playing more now?  was O. Cabrera a good idea?  up too early to cut the baby teeth, or up never??????

wish they had made a play for J. Hardy,,, didn't happen, let Crawford learn and deal and, oh, what was today, help win!,, somebody not ready to be potted will find a home at second

please please please not O. effinHudson

GoGigantos

@RogerM rather a youth cutting his teeth before 50 have been played, or a dying palm on your porch playing out the string and falling off a cliff in September???????

GoGigantos

I'm not sure O-dog is worth it since TheRiot still theoretically has use as the right-handed part of a platoon. What about putting Conor in the lefty side of it? Chris, yYou postulated that he has the range to play 2B (his arm will be happy to know it's, like, 10 times easier to throw from there).

At the minimum, Gillaspie has shown he can take a walk in the past, which the Giants desperately need right now.

P.S.: I miss Fonty.

@Damon I seem to be the only person in the world that likes the Conor to second base idea; the Giants obviously don't think he can handle the position. He's never played a single minor league inning at second.

@Damon Also, I know I don't have to tell you this, but the Giants are going to place a pretty huge (rightly or wrongly) on Hudson's experience.

 @Damon *A 'pretty huge weight', I mean.

2nd baseman Brock Bond at Fresno is hitting around .390 -- not bad for the PCL.  Why isn't he an alternative at 2nd base vs. someone whose career is going downhill?

Chris Quick

@LuvdemGints Probably some combination of injured last year, never a high-ceiling prospect to begin with, oldish.

What about playing Pill at 2nd? He played there in Fresno last year. I know he is a 1st basmen but is his defense that worrisome at 2nd to even entertain the idea?

As of today, Hudson has a modest 4 game hitting streak, in which he's batting .308.

What's the risk?

He's also a switch-hitter....

Didn't they give Ray Durham a chance, and he wasn't half-bad!

Think of Hudson like a 2012, Pat Burrell....

He'd come here so cheap, that Sabean would be insane not to call his agent....Culberson is not going to cut it, and Theriot is on the DL for another week!

Another aging middle infielder named Orlando... not sure if those wounds have healed yet.  That said, the new wounds are growing daily, so sure take the waiver.
