Blanco CF

Cabrera LF

Sandoval 3B

Posey C

Belt 1B

Schierholtz RF

Crawford SS

Burriss 2B

This is the line up.  Huff in LF has about another three days until that gets scrapped.  Pagan seems like a loose cannon with a huge hole in his bat.  I don't think Theriot is on the roster in August.  Jeff Keppinger is DHing and batting clean up in the AL East...

I'm really, really looking forward to watching MadBum pitch today. I know there are a lot of national writers saying, "yeah, Bumgarner could be the best of the big three," but as a G's fan, we know that a lot of times the national writers are full of manure. However, in this case, I belieeeeeeeve in MadBum after his second half last year. Dude's so good and I can't wait to see how his season pans out.

I'm watching Pagan. He played poorly last year and continued to play poorly in spring training, and has the potential for a disruptive attitude. I'm a bit worried about CF because if Blanco continues to play well, he might remained benched by Bochy so Pagan can "work through" his struggles. With SS and 2B already a worry, we don't need another problem to manifest in CF.

I would expect this to happen. Huff is hardly the worst defender between him and Burrell but Burrell at least provided the team with a useful bat. Going to be interesting to see if Huff can get things going early in games.

I'm looking at Timmy's velocity.  It's been on a downward trajectory the last few seasons, to the point it is not unusual to see an 88-89 MPH fastball from him.  He can pitch there and still be very good over the next two seasons, but a righty with a high 80's fastball is not getting 8 years, $200 million.

I'm looking for a player we don't expect to come in swinging a hot bat...to be 2012's 2010 Aubrey Huff.  Who knows, maybe it'll actually be Huff again...

Chris, long time no talk.  Decided to stop by your blog since it's opening day and my Dbacks are squaring off against your Giants.  I think the Giants will be much improved over last year, which will make for an entertaining divisional run.  Last year was fun (and surprising as hell as a Dbacks fan), and I think this year is going to go down to the wire again.  I'm a little worried that so many "experts" are putting the Dbacks in the World Series.

The Giants (and hell, maybe even the Dodgers) are going to make this a close divisional race.

@JS22 Hey man, long time indeed! I think the D-Backs are probably the favorites in the division right now, but I think it's going to be a really close race between the Giants, D-Backs, and Rockies.

You get another season of Mark Grace doing commentary ... lucky you!

@Chris Quick  You know, you COULD get on gTalk one of these days.

Mark Grace is awesome.  Sounds like he's got a bucket of gravel stuck in his throat.  And I'm pretty sure he's drunk half the time.  I can't wait to hear more of his zany, drunken catch-phrases.  "CAAAARRRR!" being my favorite.

Anyway, should be a fun season.  As long as it's anyone but the Dodgers.

Will the Giants use Huff like they used Burrell in 2010? Play him for the first 6 innings, and if they have the lead late in the game, put in Schierholtz as a defensive replacement for the last few innings (with Melky moving to left)? This seems to be a good way to go, and the drop-off in offense shouldn't even be that large.

Can Huff Square one up and make solid contact?  Even if it is an out, i am really concerned he is just done/useless and Bochy and team just refuse to painfully sit him until much later in the season.
