Humans, of the baseball variety, have been added to the Giants’ roster, per the Giants’ motherpage.
Added: LHP Travis Blackley, RHP Ramon Ortiz, OF Justin Christian
Outfielder Justin Christian cleared release waivers, re-signed with San Francisco and received a non-roster invitation to camp. Christian, who hit .255 (12-for-47) in 18 games for the Giants in September, was designated for assignment on Feb. 8 to clear 40-man roster space.
The Giants also signed Major League veteran Ramon Ortiz to a Minor League contract with an invitation to big league camp.
Itinerant left-hander Travis Blackley signed a Minor League deal to begin his second stint in the Giants system.
I’m pretty sure that if you search Travis Blackley’s name on BCB, you’ll find a couple of posts where I (embarrassingly) express my love for him. He was, at one time, a pretty interesting low-risk signing by the Giants. Things never really turned out for Blackley, and now he’ll go to the depths of Fresno to toil. Christian is still speedy and should play good defense in the outfield, not a bad player to have tucked away. And Ramon Ortiz pitched for the 2002 Angels. Which means he’s evil.
So hooray for more baseball humans!
