Maybe I'm the only one, but I actually think Crawford might not be so bad with the bat. Not "good", but OK. He's shown good discipline in not swinging at bad pitches, and a bit of hitting to the opposite field (yeah, partially slow bat speed) that could develop into a decent OBP type hitting. With his glove, he only has to be a league average hitter to be a valuable player. I may be crazy, but I think that's possible.

Crawford saved 6 defensive runs in less than half a season's worth of games, so 12 might be a legit extrapolation for a full season. That makes him one of the best fielding shortstops in MLB, despite his having no previous experience above AA. The Giants' commitment to him is easy to understand.

A realistic guesstimate for Crawford's defense over a full season would be something like 5-7.5 runs above average.

But, but... Brett Pill at second base!? With a little luck he could be the next Dan Uggla! Don't wake me from my dream.

Have you considered having Brett Pill play SS?
