Hey heres some FYI for all of us hoping posey will be back at the start of next season.... My buddy tore up his ankle and had the same surgeon posey had. He is up and at em no problems what-so-ever. He said the negative was the process that he went through was a longer down time and rehab about 6 months but after that he has had no problems with movement or pain. And this is someone who is nothing close to a world class athelete and ditched out on the rehab. I am 110% sure posey is back for spring training let alone the start of the season.

I would rather see him catch, as I think he handles the pitching staff well. However, if he has to move, they should move him to a position where he would retain his value. If he can play decent defense at 2B, he would still be among the best hitting players at the position (like he is now at catcher - as one of about 7-8 good hitting catchers in all of MLB). If you put him in the OF or at 1B, he becomes more of an average player. He is a good hitter with good pop, but without the positional advantage (stronger than average offensive output), he would no longer an elite player.

Poesy will be at Catcher for 2012, but in 2013 he may shift to another position with a entire offseason to get ready for it. Huff will get every opportunity to claim 1B. He is a "every other year" type player and embarrassed himself badly last year. I think he has one more good year in him. I could see Posey at 1B in 2013, but think they have Belt earmarked for 1B. Panda is fantatsic at 3B...Darn near a gold glover. It would be insanity to move him to Catcher; even platoon. Have we not learned anything from the Posey injury? Pill could work his way into the mix with a strong ST. I have read where he is working out at 2B. I still like Posey at 2B in 2013. From 2B he could still be in charge and run things.

I like randy's catcher reply. However if we want to play him at another spot how about first. I cant go thru a repeat of a 2011 huff. I do inda lie the idea of platooning posey and panda at 3b and c. only problem is we might hurt ourselves on d at both spots. if we dont resign beltran(which I hope we do) cf cabrera 2b sanchez/pill 1b posey 3b panda rf nate lf belt/huff ss brandslam c whitey/sanchez like our other c from last yr better than whitey,I forget his name..brain freez as I look at this lineup we better resign beltran or sign willingham, or reyes/rollins

How about catcher?

Posey at short stop is laughable. He is slow. I am a 55 year old super fit guy and I think I could possibly beat him to first base. aGIantfs has it right. Posey can only play catcher part time. The reason is Posey is fragile. He sees so many stars when hit by a deflected ball that I would be shocked if he coud ever play 150 games. But he is a smart hard working player with a very good bat . Get as many games as you can from him behind the plate and then he needs to rotate somewhere else like 3rd. And my opinion is he is not a perfectly adequate 2nd baseman, He is too slow. I think Posey will likely live or die at catching and thanks why he is likely to have a short career. I am pulling for him!!!

Posey at short is laughable, but so is u saying he's too fragile for behind the plate. I have seen him get hammered many-a-dinner-table as well and never once got the impression he was "seeing stars" or anything of that nature. The hit he took was so hard, and combined with the fact he was in a comprimising position, anyone would else would have broke their leg as well. I totally understand the reasoning of getting him from behind the plate to optimize his bat and longevity, but they are a much better team with him throwing down the fingers than anyone else we have. He handles this staff tremendously and we shouldn't remove him from that duty until we have a replacement that can handle it. If one of these top ten prospects pan out great, but he should stay there until we find out......Oh and the comment about him not beeing suited to play 2nd cause he is to slow? 2nd is perfect and doesnt require a lot of range. That might be a good fit for him in a couple years.

Jeff Kent did just fine at 2b. Posey is better athlete than Kent. 2B makes sense.

I still think Posey's max value comes from platooning him with [a fit & healthy] Sandoval behind the plate and at 3B, with Posey catching 60-70% of games.

Why put him at SS when he'd be perfectly adequate at 2nd. This is Freddy's last year and there doesn't seem to be a logjam there like at 3rd or 1st. Besides, 2nd is not as physically demanding as SS so it'd be perfect for Posey. So an infield of Sandoval, Crawford, Posey, and Belt in 2013 or 2014 would be awesome with one of the 3 mentioned catchers behind the plate.

Why dignify the Posey to SS suggestion with a response? Ludicrous idea. Posey occupying a corner outfield is almost as bad but not out of the realm of possibility. Giants have a 1B logjam as is, so Sandoval better stay fit enough to occupy 3rd for the long haul. I think Posey is committed to being a catcher.

If Buster Posey can play SS in the big leagues, then Brandon Belt can pitch.

Not that this means anything, but Posey was about 10-15 pounds lighter in September when he came back to identify the bodies, err, cheer on the team. I think Posey will always be somewhere in the infield, because he isn't fast enough to cover ground in the OF. He's barely faster than Keppinger while running in a straight line, even when healthy. He's got great instincts, footwork and hands along with a very good arm; I could see him playing third for about five years before ending his career at first ... after catching in 2012 and hopefully for a year or two after that, of course.

I think it's insane to think that Buster Posey should or could play shortstop in 2012. That's really the end of the world if Giants fan are banking on such a scenario.
