Troubled waters indeed for McCovey Cove. One has to wonder if Neukom's departure implies a return to Magawon Diplomacy - big, long term contracts to players of questionable calibre in a scarce market. It was Neukom's wish to strengthen the farm and for Cain and Lincecum retire as Giants, and as long as he was at the helm that direction seemed true, but the winds may now be blowing south. Could anyone sleep well at night, knowing the Giants might set their sights on Prince Fielder in the offseason? A regression-in-waiting free agent signing from mouth of Boras would be like an iceburg to the Gigantic. Or was that Titanic? There can be no doubt that Neukom's formula has been successful. Even with this year's sinking ship, the Giants are still in contention well into September. And with Neukom's short term contracts, the Giants will finally have some payroll flexibility this coming offseason, with Posey and Freddy rowing back next season (hopefully). Magawon Diplomacy was a failure and handcuffed the team when free hands were needed to steer the wheel, anyone who encourages an encore of those doldrums should walk the plank. Perhaps Giants fans should start to batten down the hatches.

The Burns are like Marge Simpon's sisters. Got to be a power play.

The Giants are one of the most successful teams, economically speaking, in baseball. They average over 40,000 fans per home game only headed by the Phillies and Yankees. This is an organization which spends money for overthehill and questionable veterans as well as promising rookies whom they bring up in the latter part of the year (Brandon Belt and, before that, Buster Posey) so as to keep them under contract and control one year longer. The day that the Giants bid (a real bid) on Prince Fielder and/or Albert Pujols will be a day of rejoicing. This is not the Giants way. The fans will come no matter what is served up to them. Matt Caine and Tim Lincecum will see the light and sign a longterm contract with a team which is seriously headed towards the playoffs and...will support them in winning efforts with runs scored. The Giants front office is a disillusioning bunch.

"It was Neukom's wish to strengthen the farm " I find this narrative odd, if it was his wish then why was the team so willing to flip top-10 prospects as trade bait in an already weakened farm system?
