I don't know if this issue is fixable, but the dead ABs from Huff certainly are. I'd bet that the majority of good hitters take more pitches (exceptions like Pablo notwithstanding), and the majority of bad hitters take less (pitchers don't pitch around bad hitters). So that stat may just be a symptom of the real problem: the Giants do not have enough good hitters.

It's embarassing. I'm also a Yankees fan, and to watch the difference between the two teams solely in terms of pitches seen is astounding (forget about in terms of runs scored, because you know, that's just stupid). It's not rocket science - go out there and make the pitcher work, make him throw strikes. Instead, it's like they go out and swing 3 times, maybe take one pitch and wonder why they can't score runs.

I hate to blame hitting coaches as I rarely think it's their fault. But seriously, who has Bam Bam Muellens (one of the biggest free swingers ever) helped? It seems like every Giants' hitter is getting worse over the last two years. What does he do to earn a paycheck? Doesn't take much to keep your job as a hitting coach. You know Bam Bam everyday is working around the clock to get rid of Belt's patience at the plate. I've always felt that PPA were the most underrated, yet telling stat in baseball. Sabean and Bochy obviously value it the least.

Different hitting coach, same hitters, same result. Hitting coaches make virtually no difference. Blame the general manager for acquiring bad hitters and the manager for not putting his best lineup out there.

Not the hitting Bam Bam's fault.

Went to the game last night and this is exactly what I was seeing as it progressed. So many Giants hitters getting called out after very few pitchers, meanwhile Timmy is nearing 100 by the 6th... We were praying for 1-2 pitch outs so that we could save Timmy's arm, the D-Bags were contemplating whether their starter would be able to go all 9.... :(

The boys are aggressive and make things happen; they keep the defense on its toes! You know, on its toes, like they run on the field, and seven pitches later run right back off it because it is their turn to hit again already.
