Yes, since the Giants are way above their Pythagorean projections, we know they've won a lot more one run games than they could have reasonably expected, so we can't complain when they lose a one run game. When Brandon Belt comes off the DL, I think he'd be another good addition to this struggling offense. Thinking long term, I believe having a core offense of Posey, Belt and Sandoval with Torres leading off could form what Bill James once called "a locus of danger". I just wish Torres were about five years younger. He's 33 now, while Posey (24), Belt (23) and Sandoval (24) have yet to reach their prime.

There is a certain, satisfying, knowingness I feel every time I watch a Giants hitter, especially a certain ex-Phillie outfielder, take a fastball for a strike and then swing through a breaking ball on the next pitch.

It's actually pretty ridiculous that Burrell is not playing more. He has the best wRC+ on the team, at 118, as of today. Rowand? 75. Rowand swings at 34.5 percent of pitches out of the zone. Burrell? Only 22 percent. One of these guys needs to be playing. I remember reading an article at Baseball Prospectus a couple years ago, where the writer tried to distinguish between guys swing at everything (Vlad), guys who swing at nothing, even in the zone (Brett Gardner) and everyone in between. He found the most interesting player to be Rowand, who was dead in the middle. As the writer put it, he's equally likely yo swing at a ball in the dirt as one right down the middle. Basically, he's just guessing up there.

Whoops! I neglected to look at the byline. Sorry, Otis!

Right there with you, Chris. Even though pitcher wins are dumb, I was satisfied that they got Timmy off the hook for the loss. He pitched really well and deserved better than his anemic offense supplied. My only concern is how long Romo gets banished to the doghouse for.
