Can we vote as fans for legalizing steroids in baseball please? I would really like Bill Hall to be on steroids. And Gillaspie, that would be cool. And what could Ross do with a 6 month supply of deca-durabolin.

I'm going to the San Francisco Infirmaries game today. Should be fun!

Good post, bad subject. Apparently Fontenot reinjured his groin last night too.

Is Bill Hall better than Burriss at this point? Sure Hall has some power, but Burriss is young enough to have some upside. Either way it sucks. The Giants have an absolutely terrible offense without Posey and Sandoval. It was bad before those guys went down, but now it's epic in its fail. With the year that Vogelsong is having the Giants should be running away with the NL West, but when your middle of the order bat is supposed to be Aubrey Huff and you insist on giving consistent AB's to Aaron Rowand and Miguel Tejada this is going to happen.

Sadly, Hall is probably better than Burris. But that's not saying much. Neither is a very good defender at 2B. The numbers on Hall make him look like he's close to average, probably a few ticks below. Burriss is probably about the same, average to below. They're separated on offense. ZiPS has Hall at a .304 wOBA over the remainder of the season. Burriss is at .279. Burriss will close some of the gap on baserunning. He's better than Hall, who's about average. I think the most frustrating thing about Burriss is that for a light-hitting guy, he's not very good on defense. And he's yet to take a single walk in 51 plate appearances this year. I get the idea of slapping the ball in play and running like mad, but his walk-rate is atrocious. When Fontnot gets back, he's the best guy to start at 2B. By far.

I don't buy it. If you have a tool box full of adjustable wrenches, with more out in the shed, the last thing you need is another adjustable wrench that's maybe a little smaller... At some point you do need a screwdriver or two... neither Hall nor Fontenot add what Burris has used to win actual games for the Gs.

The thing is, Burriss doesn't actually do anything (besides running fast) better than Bill Hall.

I forgot to mention that Hall has hit LHP well over his career (.790 OPS) so he might work on some level in a platoon scenario. Fontenot has hit a .710 OPS over his career against LHP (compared to .751 OPS against RHP). When facing a lefty, you start Hall somewhere on the infield (2B, 3B). Against a RHP, you start Fontenot.
