What about trading for Jason Kendall? He is nearly back for injury and while not the player he used to be he should still be an upgrade on Whiteside. Plus he is a free agent at the end of the season so we wouldn't have any commitment to him when Buster returns. Surely a trade of Affeldt or Runzler would get it done? Bear in mind Zito should end up in the bullpen plus Kroon is in the minors so we should have enough relievers to cover the loss of one of Affeldt or Runzler.

Kendall's wRC+ scores since 2007: 61, 74, 73, and 66. And he's coming off an injury. He's been about 40% below league average, just as a hitter, over the past four seasons. And I think his defense rates poor to very poor these days. No thanks.

is posada as bad an option as pudge?

Way better hitter, pretty bad on defense. It's hard to see Posada going back behind the plate regularly anytime soon.

I don't have a good sense of the Catcher market right now -- who else is considered "available" besides Pudge? also, lollin' at comment #1 on the Baggs story: "Giants could of really used Pablo’s 4 rbi’s tonight." Pretty sure that "could of" was not ironical...

I've seen Mike Napoli's name come up a few times. I don't know, seems unlikely to me.

Napoli would be a huge upgrade, don't see it happening.

Yeah, me neither. He's been about a three win player in each season since 2008. His power (career .239 ISO) would be really appealing to the Giants, as would his career walk-rate (11.5%).
