been pretty busy at work. Besides, Chris and Rory have been killing it.

Totally agree with your rankings, just one issue though. Over his career Schierholtz actually hits better against lefties (.850 OPS as L vs L compared to .681 OPS as L vs. R), which doesn't make him a good platoon candidate. As you mentioned Cody Ross turns into Willie Mays Ross against lefties, but is fairly pedestrian against righties which would make him a great candidate to platoon if only the Giants had a lefty who hit better against righties, which of course they don't. However, the platoon may wind up being Burrell against righties and Ross against lefties.

I couldn't agree more about Burrell. His OBP is .364 (.362 career), so I don't see how the Giants, who have trouble getting on base, could afford not to play him. He's limited defensively, of course, but he does have catch-whatever-he-can-get-to-ness, which seems to me an underrated talent for past their prime players. If Belt gets recalled to play OF, does he slide between Torres and Burrell on that list? Is he number 1? Presumably, you'd want him to get ABs, so he'd have to be in the top 3, right? Re: schierholtz/ross platoon: One potential problem with the RF scenario is that Schierholtz' career numbers confound traditional platoon splits (vs RHP .250/.296/.383; vs LHP .344/.377/.478). In fact, Ross' numbers against RHP (.255/.310/.409), though unspectacular, are better than Schierholtz'. To be fair, Schierholtz has only 168 PAs against LHP, so the anomalous split could be a function of small sample size. But it could also be because lefties can't throw him back foot breaking balls.

yeah, I'm not really sure how to think about how Belt fits in this year. It depends on how his AAA experience goes, but certainly ahead of Schierholtz. As for the splits, well I've had a couple posts on that issue simmering for a little while. Your question has motivated me to actually crunch some of the numbers, so I'll give you my opinion on that when it's a little more rigorously formed.

How about a torres/rowand platoon in center and a schierholtz/ross platoon in right? All of them are hitting well enough to give them some at-bats, but no one is running away with the job, so let's see how things go until someone slumps or really takes off. Besides, most of them have pretty strong platoon splits anyway.

wouldn't be the worst thing in the world. At the very least it would give everybody regular playing time.

I wonder if Schierholtz, DeRosa, Affeldt/Runzler and maybe even Ishikawa, have any Trade-Bait Value for a Major League Shortstop?

Hate to say it, but I think if Sabean called another GM and brought up any combination of those players, he'd laugh and hang up.
