Needs more fat jokes. But seriously, Torre really does seem to grind relievers' arms into little tiny bits. I'm convinced he ended (or at least significantly contributed to) Scott Proctor's career. In 2006, Torre had Proctor appear in 83 games while pitching 102.1 innings, leading all relievers in the AL. He pitched relatively well in '07, but since then, he's battled arm injuries. Nothing conclusive, but it reminds me a little of Jim Brower with the Giants in 2004. Brower appeared in 89 games, again leading all NL relievers, and pitched 89 innings. He was never the reliever that Proctor was, but he seemed to just burn out after that year. Brower was last seen pitching in the Indy Leagues in 2009.

Seems like Rivera is even more of an exception when it comes to relievers that Joe Torre has managed.
