‘Pitchers and Catchers Report’ is a phrase that will never get old.
This is one of the best times of the year. I hope it’s no coincidence that, in my area, the forecast for the next week has several sunny days in the 60s. The sun is coming back, it’s no longer dark at 5:00 PM, and Giants’ pitchers and catchers report today to Scottsdale, Arizona for spring training.
I don’t care if watching baseball in the spring means watching AAA fodder, or guys that might never make the majors — it’s honest-to-goodness baseball! The spring is a time when Travis Ishikawa can reign supreme. It’s a time when every player is poised for a breakout year. It’s a time when I can turn on my radio and listen to Jon Miller (it’s been way too long) call games. It’s a very good time, indeed.
In less than 12 days, the Giants will play their first game of the spring against the Arizona Diamondbacks and I couldn’t be happier.
Baseball is back!
