I was wondering about Mota too, I was surprised he came back when he probably could have gotten a sure MLB job somewhere else. Guess he really wants to be a Giants, maybe he grew up as Giants fan in DR? Maybe he wants to get back at Dodgers for not taking him back after a nice 2009 season? Who knows...

this freaked me out. I had just been working on a similar post! I thought I had published it by accident. Anyway; multiple sets of 2 cents Yourkin - is he currently the 6th starter? Loux's 2009 statline actually melted my face. Felix Romero's career is weird. Why didn't anyone promote him when he was putting up good numbers? Why did he not play for a year? Seeing Vogelsong on the roster makes me feel like I've had a stroke. I really like Guillermo Mota when no one is mistaking him for a high-leverage reliever. Waldis still seems like he should have way better results to go a long with that stuff. Verdugo is intriguing, but I doubt we'll see him this year with the long line of lefties in front of him. Wilmin - what am I missing? Why does he get an NRI? He's 26 and has thrown less than 30 innings past A ball.

I think Yourkin is probably a candidate for 6th starter. Though, that's pretty frightening. ZiPS projects him at an ERA+ of 81 which is probably sub-Sadowski production. The Giants had really better pray that none of their starters get hurt this year. I don't know much about Romero. It appears that he was suspended for 15 games in 2005 for violating MLB's drug policy (link). Maybe that has something to do with his 2006 absence? Totally agree on Mota. He's a decent "back of the pen" type of reliever. He just should never be used in high leveraged situations. I thought Bochy used him appropriately last season -- leverage index of 0.72 I've thought the same of Waldis. His fastball is crazy fast and it looks like it has some good action, but he's never really struck out a ton of guys, at least not what you would expect from someone with mid-90s heat. It's good to have him back in the system. Occasionally guys with big arms figure things out, and he looks like a candidate to do that. He's still young at 24. No clue of Wilmin other than he throws lefty.

Wilmin Rodriguez came over from the DSL as a 21 year old. He's a lefty with the reputation of having a power arm (FB runs around 92), but I think his stuff has been steadily diminishing the past few years. I vaguely remember hearing some buzz about him a few years back -- maybe in one of the BA prospect chats with Baggs. Looking over his minor league stats... lots of meh. Maybe he's death on lefties -- a harder throwing Ben Snyder? http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.c...
