Is Burrell Back?

Andrew Baggarly tweets:

I’m hearing the Giants have re-signed OF Pat Burrell to a discounted, one-year contract, pending a physical. Working to confirm.

Hmmm. I like the ‘discounted’ and ‘one-year’ parts. Burrell, was of course, one of the many junk-heap acquisitions that turned out nicely for the Giants last season. After returning to the National League, Burrell basically reverted to his old Philadelphia ways — hitting for power, walking, and playing wonky defense. Burrell added 2.7 wins to the Giants in just 341 plate appearances.

Financial details are still pending, but it’s hard to not like this deal. I would say that Burrell is slightly more flammable than most — player-type, his time in the AL — but it’s hard to match what he offers with the bat on the current roster.

More nerd musings to come as the deal is announced.

oops--this was meant to respond to Paapfly on the Tejada thread.

Baseball Reference assigned Tejada a .6 defensive WAR for last year, Uribe a .2, I believe. That doesn't suggest that Uribe is better defensively.
