The sooner Burriss goes down and Frandsen comes up, the better. Also, I think Molina has to be the MVP. LOOKATDURRS RBIS AND DINGERZ!!!

I thought I would pile on the Lewis vs. Rowand with a bit small sample size theater here. Please feel free to take me to task if I climb out too far on a limb. Lewis has 14 P.A.’s with a runner on 1st (any combinations) with 5K’s (an almost 36% K rate) 2 BB (almost 14%walk rate) and 0 GiDP. Rowand has 30 P.A’s with a runner on 1st (any combination) with 5 K’s (about a 16.6% K rate), 3 BB (10% walk rate) 5 GiDP’s ( for a 16.6% rate of a GiDP). As brutal as Lewis’s K rate has been this month pluss it is shocking to see Rowands K + GiDP rate only a couple points less than Lewis’ K + GiDP rate (33 vs 36) when a runner is on first. With Rowands K rate being roughly the same as his GiDP with a runner on 1st that means he is making almost half as many outs as Lewis would if they had the same amount of chances. That is just brutal on a club struggling to average 3.5 runs a game. To put the GiDP’s in a difernt perspective look at Molina 32 P.A.’s with a runner on first resulting in 3 GiDP (roughly a 9% change for a GiDP). If at the end of March you had told be any player on this squad was a bigger DP risk then Molina I would have had a laughing seizure. Now I am about to have a sad.

Kenshin I think we need a couple months to play out first. Not just see who might be selling what but also so the farm hands can keep building a track record. We complain a lot about what Ct might do gauging were hitters are in there development imagine being a franchise gauging our AA arms. For all we know by July the Pirates will be out of it looking to drop Sanchez’s contract ( 6MM this year 8MM option that vests with 635 P.A.’s ) and eke out something for 3-4 months of LaRoche. Or Betre enters a death spiral or ... well get my drift. It is just too early to do more than list what would improve the team.

LVP –Rowand. His glove work has gotten better than last year and maybe I am just being too critical but for a guy that should get most of his P.A.’s in the 6-8 I expect better. I am beginning to dread this contract more than Zito’s. At least there are half dozen spots to hide a struggling expensive pitcher on the 25 man. Some circles are making much about Lewis 1 RBI I look at Rowand’s 5 GiDP’s (knowing how infrequently the ’09 Giants get runners on) and cringe MVP – Lewis. A 400 OBP be a Giant not named Bonds? Throw the guy a bone. The K’s are high but it’s a far better result than GiDP’s ( 0 so far) are and Lewis routinely works a pitcher.

Allow me first to rail against the evils of fan trade conjecture before engaging in it. Ahhh rosterbation.... How I hate thee. Most fans are just really bad at trade construction for a number of reasons. 1. They try to "win" the trade and create Kashmir for Zambrano scenarios. 2. they hugely overvalue their own players 3. they don't take availability into account. I won't pretend to be very good at trade scenarios mainly out of ignorance about reason #3 (and to a much lesser extent than most people reason #2) 1st base- My thoughts on Fielder first. I have no great desire to trade for Fielder for the same reasons you mentioned above in addition the fact that he is overvalued by many. However, I never really believed the Fielder rumors for a reason I have yet to see mentioned by anyone. Brian Sabean loves himself some first base defense (call it Snowitis). He just wouldn't go out of his way to acquire a 1st baseman with a bad defensive reputation. Trading for a 1st baseman runs against so very many of my instincts. I firmly believe that 1st base is the one position a team can fill with freely available talent. However, Ishi is having such a terrible season that a trade for even a below average 1st baseman adds 1-1.5 wins to the team. That's huge! I mean that's almost like trading Jonathan Sanchez for Josh Beckett. 2nd base- I think the Giants have decided that Frandsen is just not a major league player at this point. I highly doubt that they will ever give him a shot. For 2nd base I'm going to steal an idea from Dave Cameron (shocking I know) and suggest Adam Kennedy. He's cheap, he's probably available and he's a significant upgrade over Burris. Also, I wouldn't mind trying to acquire Jose Lopez. He's over-valued in general but his poor start probably counteracts that tendency. He's not very good and his peak is probably not more than league average but he represents another major upgrade from Emmanuel.

>> That’s the type of hard-hitting analysis that makes bay city ball one of my favorite blogs. You're going to love tomorrow's post -- Tim Lincecum is pretty good. RE: 1B and 2B I would probably shuffle a few guys (Frandsen at 2B and Guzman/McPherson/Phelps at 1B) through the positions to see if anything sticks, but a trade wouldn't be the worst thing to happen. The player would obviously have to have a few years of FA time left before the Giants make a deal. I'm sure you know this, but Prince Fielder is an often chased 1B in trade scenarios for the Giants. The Brewers should probably trade him and just stick Gamel at first base. But, Prince isn't really anything all that special. If he's posting near +5 wins like he did in 2007 -- then he might be worth something, but his defense really impacts his overall value and his 2008 was marked by decline. Just typing out loud here. Any trade targets you'd like to see the Giants pursue? For the price Adam Dunn signed for, he would have been a really nice fit for the Giants at first.

"The Giants’ offense isn’t very good." That's the type of hard-hitting analysis that makes bay city ball one of my favorite blogs. As lucky as the Giants have been this season (winning 1 run games is not a skill set), the team still has an outside shot at the division. If they don't try and address the ridiculousness of their 1st and 2nd base situations that chance all but vanishes. They really need to trade minor league pitching depth for major league talent at this point (despite the fact that every reader at McC will have a conniption).
