    ’64 was a little before I was able to watch baseball and understand some of what was going on. I do know Stretch had bad knees by the time I best remember him (early 70’s). I had not realized he had only taken the field for 627 innings in 1964. Got to love B-R for these kind of things. Sorry I am not more help on this.

    Yeah, I was 9 years old in 1969, and Stretch was the man. I figure he was hurt in ’64, but like daveinexile, it was before my time. (Stretch was so good in ’69 and ’70 that my pal Marty named his black lab “McCovey”.) Willie Mac came back to the Giants in 1977 and had a great year on a bad team. He was beloved by the fans, of course, and hung around in a limited role for a few more years. He could still stroke and delivered some memorable hits.
