Trading Matt Cain and Zooperstars would be my nomination. I drank Jose Castillo Kool-aid for a week when he double his way to league average stat line. Shame. I feel shame.

Clearly, oldjacket, you forgot that the dude hit doubles! WHAT MORE DO YOU WANT? Worst Giants related meme of the year? I say yes.

@OGC, Sandoval was a +0.8 player by OPD, he qualified at 1B. That might not look spectacular but Sandoval would have probably been +4-5 runs over a full season. His offense was rated as +0, he was dead average for a 1B, but his defense was a +0.8. Because he qualified at 1B, his requirements would have been higher than if he qualified at C. Yeah, I'm aware that hitters can influence their BABIP more than pitchers, but I think expecting Nate to be able to influence his BABIP like Matt Holliday (career BABIP of .356) or Derek Jeter (career BABIP of also .356) might be wishcasting at this point in time. Hitting for .300 is fine, but I'd rather it not be an empty .300. Nate has posted some above average BABIP's in the minors but we don't know what he'll do in the majors until a few seasons under his belt. I don't think it's unreasonable to expect a drop in BABIP in the majors because he'll be -- theoretically -- facing better defenses than he had to hit against in AAA. I like Nate well enough and I hope he can get some AB's this year. Maybe as a 4th OF depending on what they do with Winn and or Roberts. Jose Castillo pretty much single handily destroyed our 3B production this year. As did Ochoa, Bocock, and Vizquel did with SS. I was surprised to see Vizquel rated as a (-8) SS, I expected him to be lower. His glove was worth something like +16 runs and his bat was -8. Interesting stuff.

Very nice, great post! About Schierholtz, I would semi-quote DrB: "If he's hitting way over .300, I would rather he hit than take a walk." Also, I would note that, for those who don't know, from what I have read, a batter's BABIP does not regress to a mean of .300, each batter has his own career mean that he regresses to until he loses his hitting skills. His BABIP was .358 in 2007 and .348 in 2008, for the majors, .335 in the minors in 2008, .349 in 2007, .302 in 2006 (Dodd Stadium), and .408 in 2005. Another thing to note is that his strikeout rate in the minors have been dropping the past few years. He may have his flaws, but he's ready to get his chance to start. Nice to get confirmation that 1B, 3B, and SS are the big areas of improvement we need. Castillo's fadeaway at 3B and Bowker's at 1B hurt both positions, and Bocock and Vizquel's (and as noted, Ochoa's) horrible offense at SS surely hurt the team. They made Neifi Perez look like Tony Gwynn! But I think they will be improved in 2009. I'm encouraged that Burriss will be a huge improvement at SS offensively, and that Pablo Sandoval will a huge improvement at either 1B or 3B. Ishikawa, while negative, was still much better than Bowker; he had roughly a third of Bowker's ABs, so extrapolating, he would have had a -7.5 vs. Bowker's -17.6 in similar playing time, assuming he could continue that pace. So it'll still be negative, but at least much better than Bowker. We have to take improvement where we can, at least until Villalona is ready to take over 1B (or 3B), with Sandoval taking the other position. Speaking of Sandoval, where did he show up on the list? I would have thought he would be on the positive list or was his defense that bad?
