I'd say Schierholtz has the best chance of being on the team next year. I like your idea on the role McLain could play on next year's team. Kind of unrelated, but what's up with Ishikawa? I haven't seen many of his ABs lately, but he seems to be kind of lukewarm right now. At this point, what do you see as his prospects for next year?

I'll start the discussion today. I'll say Geno and not necessarily because I think his stuff is great, but the bullpen is one of the major problems with the '08 Giants, so I figure his chances are good to sneak on the roster. If I'm dreaming of a best case scenario, it's Nate because it signals that Dave Roberts is traded in the off-season for pennies on the dollar and Nate can swap around in the corners, gobbling up AB's.

Dangit, I should've looked up Ishi's stats. I was going off of a little data. Thanks, OGC, for providing what I should've checked out before posting. Chris, now that I see the numbers, I like the idea of Ishikawa vs. RH pitching.

What's lukewarm about Ishikawa? .271/.340/.458/.798 with 2 HR in 48 AB, 10 RBI too. That's better than any 1B the Giants have had in ages. Now he has to keep it up. I think that trading Roberts won't free up enough time for Schierholtz, Winn must go this off-season. Roberts does not seem like he would whine about a bench role, but Winn, as nice as he is, probably would rather go elsewhere than sit. I like Misch, long or short, I still think he can be an effective back of rotation starter for us, maybe more than effective. He would take Hennessey's role of the past couple of years, as Hennessey is probably gone next season, according to media rumors, due to his salary and arbitration. Too bad, Hennessey should get props for pitching well for us the past few years and not get dismissed so easily when it was his digestive problems that caused his problems this season, he was severely weakened by this and was not able to pitch at full strength until recently. And giving up a lot of hits when you are a reliever is typically a function of small samples, relievers don't really get enough innings to really judge, even over a full season, how good they are, let alone a couple of months. You really have to work more from his periperhals to more accurately judge his performance. I want to see Schierholtz a lot, Misch get a chance to get into the competition for next spring training, and Hennessey to get a chance to show that he is finally healthy now and thus a team might take a chance on him, and give the Giants some prospect for him. I would love to see McClain get some more chances particularly at 3B because Winn remembers him as a good defensive 3B, when Sandoval isn't playing 3B. Aurilia shouldn't be getting many AB's over Ishikawa, Sandoval, and McClain, but that's me.

@Wax Kind of unrelated, but what’s up with Ishikawa? I haven’t seen many of his ABs lately, but he seems to be kind of lukewarm right now. At this point, what do you see as his prospects for next year? I've been pleased with Ishikawa so far. He's only had 40 AB's so it's not like we can draw anything from his time on the Giants. He should start against RHP the rest of the way out and in a perfect world, he'd hit at league average for the Giants next year. He's got some questions still, but he hasn't done anything yet to make me love or hate him. I hope he works out. I think he could head into next year as the starter against RHP, unless the Giants trade for a 1B this winter.
