Schmidt has indeed declined some apparent by his loss of velocity but I like the three year deal. He should be a good pitcher for at least 2 years of the deal unless he gets injured or something.

If anyone offered him 4-5 years then they are gambling but 3 years seems juuuust about right.

Are you trying to tell me that Luis Gonzalez isn't an upgrade to the outfield!?</description>

  I know the addition of Schmidt allows them to trade Penny for a bat.  And, Jesus, do they need one.  Have you seen that outfield?</description>
